Free Virtual Filing Cabinet

When you sign up for A Billion Billion you get a free virtual filing cabinet where you can store all your documents electronically. This includes scanned in paper documents and electronic documents, such as Word, Excel, etc. By default your documents are private and only you can access them, however you can also "Publish" your files or folders, making them public. You can then share them with people by just sending them the link to your file or folder. There is no limit on file size so there is nothing stopping you from scanning in your thirty pages document and sharing them with your friends and colleagues or from uploading that high quality photo.

What can I use my Virtual Filing Cabinet for?

Why would anyone want a free virtual filing cabinet? There are hundreds of things you can use it for, here are some examples:

Scan in papers you would normally keep in a paper filing cabinet, such as important receipts, to eliminate clutter and keep a safe backup.

Scan in your class notes and upload them or upload your typed notes.

Send large files that are too big to email. Just upload them to your folder and send the link to your friends to download.

What is special about A Billion Billion?

First of all: We love you. Second of all: We will constantly be adding useful new features and tools to help you manage your files and do things with your data that would be difficult to do on your own computer. For example we have added an OCR tool, which can extract text from images (see the next item). By adding in "open source" source tools we will provide free tools for you to use seamlessly without any installation or upgrades required. Extra tools in A Billion Billion.

A Billion Billion has implemented OCR (Optical Character Recognition) using Tesseract OCR. Documents containing text that are scanned into a computer are usually saved to an image format. In these image formats the computer cannot tell the difference between the text and the rest of the image and so the text is not editable or searchable. Why is this free and what do I get for free?

Because we love you. Also: We will provide a large amount of space for free; this will be supported by non-obtrusive advertisements which will show up on the side of your documents. Additional space will be available for a nominal monthly fee. As we are in our beta stage we haven't released the exact numbers.
